Touching various organs of the Body

Take some water in the left palm. Dip the middle and the ring fingers of the right hand in water Now, reciting the following mantras one by one, touch the respective organs with wet fingers, as indicated below Dip the two fingers after every touching. Finally wash both hands. Keep in mind the sense of the respective mantra while touching a particular organ.
1. Om vakn ma asye’stu || Touchrightandleft side of mouth
2. Om nasor me prano’stu || Touch right and Ieft nostril
3. Om akshnor me chakshur astu || Touch right and left eye.
4.Om karnayor me shrotram astu ll Touch right and left ear.
5.Om bahvor me balam astu || Touch right and left arm.
6.Om urvor ma ojo’stu || Touch right and left thigh 7. Om aristani me angani tanus tanva me saha santu || Sprinkle whole body

Paraphrase (1-7)-

Om = O Supreme Preceptor !
vak = may the perfect power of speech
astu = ever exist
me =in my
asye = Mouth
Om = O Bestower
pranah =may the vitality
astu =ever exist
me = in my
nasoh= nostrils
Om = O Supreme Guide !
Chakshuh= may the Power of seeing
astu = ever exist
me= in my
akshno = eyes
Om = O Supreme Hearer of prayers
shrotram = may the Power of hearing
astu= ever exist
me = in my
karnayoh= Ears

Purport (1-7) —-
O Almighty God ! May our tongues be furnished with the strength of speech, our nostrils with vitality, our eyes with vision, our ears with audition, our arms with prowess and our thighs with vigour . May all the major and minor limbs of our bodies remain unhurt and free from all defects. O Gracious God! May we enjoy sound health throughout our lives.

Ignition of Fire

Put a bit of camphor in a long handled spoon . Uttering the following expressions, ignite the camphor from the flame of a butter oil lamp kindled beforehand. It may be ignited with a match stick, as prevalent these days .

Om Bhur bhuvah suvah

Paraphrase —
Om = O God ! Thou Art
Bhuh = the life breath of all
Bhuvah = the remover of pains
Svah = and Imparter of bliss

Purport- OGod! we glorify Thee with the expressions bhuh bhuvah and svah–which otherwise imply three worlds — respectively the earth, intermediate space and heavenly bodies. Fire, kindled by us, represents the natural energy that exists in all the three lokas.

Placing Fire in the Fire-pan

Recite the following mantra. On the utterance of ‘adadhe’ place the burning camphor in the middle of the small woodsticks, piled in the fire-pan beforehand.

Um bhur bhuvah svar dyauriva
bhumna prithiviva varimna |
Tasyas te prithivi devayajani
prishthe’ gnim-annadam-annadyayadadhe ||

Paraphrase-
Om = godis
bhuh = the vital breath, bhuvah = the Remover of all the pains,
svah = and the lmparter of bliss.
(Devayajani) = The region of Sacrifice for the goods
iva = resembles .
dyauh = the celestial region
bhumna = by dint of abundance and
iva = it resembles
prithive = the earth varimna = by dint of excellence
Prithivi = O Vast devayajani = Device sacrificial place
tasyah = on that
te = thy
prshthe = surface
adadhe = I place
agnim = the fire which is annadam = the consumer of the edibles annadyaya = for the consumption of food

Purport– O God! Thou art the vital breath of all, the remover of all the pains and the Imparter of bliss. In accordance with thy injunction of performing daily sacrifice, we establish the sacred fire in the fire – pan. The fire – pan represent the vast sacrificial ground . Fire kindled in the fire – pan consumes the oblations( I.e. it breaks the substance in to very fine particular which purify the atmosphere). May this establishment of fire start the process properly .

Inflaming the sacrificial fire

After Placing the kindled camphor in the fire – pan, put a few small wood sticks over and around the burning camphor. Inflame the fire by fanning nad recite the following mantra simultaneously —–

Om udhudhyasvagne pratijagrihi tvam –
Ishtapurte sam srijetham – ayam cha |
Asmint sadhasthe adhyuttarasmin
Vishve deva yajamanas – cha sidata ||

Paraphrase —-

Om= Though the grace of God
Agne= O fire!
Udhudhyasva= rise (burn))
Pratijagrihi=and wake up (I.e. catch flames)
Ayam= May this (sacrificer)
Cha= and
Tvam=thou
Sam srijetham=( both ) procure
Ishtapurte= the work of personal and public intrest
Vishve devah = may the learned persons who are present here
Cha=and
Yajamanah =the sacrificer
Sidata =sit together
Adhi=at
Asmin=this
Sadhasthe = common (gathering ) place
Uttarasmin = and the upper one (i.e. the higher position)

Purport– O Gracious God! May the fire kindled by us catch flames (symbolically it signifies the keen desire of the sacrificer to proceed speedily). May our learned companies co- operate us in our works, personal as well as public intrest. May we help one another not only in our material progress but also in our spiritual advancement.

Offering of Fire-sticks

When the fire ignites the wood-sticks piled in the fire- pan, take three wood-sticks of sandle tree or the lide, each measuring about eight fingers (eight centimeters) in length. Dip the sticks in the ghee. Recite the following mantras and put the sticks one by one into the inflamed fire on the utterance of ‘svaha’ after the first, third and fourth mantra.

1. Om ayam ta idhma atma jatavedas tenedhyasva vardhasva chedha vardhaya chasman prajaya pasubhir brahmavarchasenannadyena samedhaya svahau idam-agnaye jatavedase-idam na mama ||

jatavedah = O Fire! theilluminator and possessor of all
ayam = this
idhmah =wood stick is
te = thy
atma = body
ldhyasva =Be lighted
cha = and
vardhasva = grow into flame
tena = with it
Iddha = Enlighten
cha = and
vardhaya = enrich
asman = us
Samedhaya = Make us flourish
prajaya =with offspring
pashubhih =cattle brahmavarchasena =divine glory
annadyena =and edible food
Svaha = We entreat of thee for them all
Idam = may this oblation be
agnaye = for the fire
jatavedase =who is possessor and illuminator
Idam = it is
na =not
mama = mine.

Purport- O Almighty God! thou art the source of the energy which is symbolised by the sacrificial fire . We express our desire to abandon our selfish ends by offering fuel to the fire and negating our ownership of it. Let us work f the living beings. O Lord, we entreat of Thee, to bless us with all worldly requisites.

2.Om samidhagnim duvasyata ghritair bodhayatatithim |
Asmin havya juhotana svaha ||
ldam agnaya idam na mama ||

2. Paraphrase — Duvasyata =Serve(i.e Blaze)
agnim = the sacrificial fire samidha = by means of the fuel
Bodhayata = Attend to (i.e Inflame)
atithim= the guest (i.e. the sacrificial fire)
ghritaih = by means of clarified butter
Juhotana = Offer
havya = the oblations
asmin = in this fire
a = from all sides
ldam = it is
agnaye =for the fire
Idam = it is
na = not
mama= mine

Purport-We set the sacrificial fire ablaze by offering the oblation of fuel and ghee. We offer these articles not to achieve our selfish ends, but to benefit all the creatures. May Almighty God bless us with success in our motives .

3.Om susamiddhaya shochise ghritam tivram juhotana |
Agnaye jatavedase svaha ||
Idam-agnaye jatavedase idam na mama ||

3. Paraphrase —
Juhotana = Offer
tivram = excellent
ghritam = clarified butter
agnaye = into the fire , which
susamiddhaya = is inflamed
shochishe = enlightened and
jatavedase = illuminator of born substance
Svaha = I offer the oblation
Idam = It is
jatavedase = for the illuminator and possessor
agnaye = sacrificial fire
Idam = it is
na = not
mama= mine

Purport–
We offer pure and fragrant ghee into the well – litsacrificial fire as a token of our sincere generosity . The thus offered would break in to fine particals which, in turn, would purify the atmosphere. O Gracious God! may we give up our dearest articles for the welfare of all creatures.

4.Om tam tva samidbhir_angiro ghritena vardhayan’ase | Brihachchhocha vavishtl’ya svaha ||
Idam agnaye angirase idam na mama ||

Anugrah= O all – Pervading
vardhhyamasi = we increase
tam tva = thee
samidhhih = by means of the fuel – sticks
ghritena = and clarified butter
Yavishthya =O best disintegrator !
shocha = illuminate
brihat = brightly
Svaha = I offer the oblation
Idam = it is
angirase = for the all pervading
agnaye = fire
Idam = it is
Na = not
Mam = mine

Purport-
We set the sacrificial fire to flames with the help of the fuel and purified ghee. The fire pervades the finest particales of the substance and disintegrates them in to their component parts . The fine particals combines with energy remove injurious effects from the atmosphere . O God! May this act of ours give health, wealth and pleasure to all the living beings.
